Exploring explanations of Library 2.0

Filed under: Uncategorized — momcass @ 7:51 pm

I read some info about Library 2.0 on Wikipedia. It put into words for me what 2.0 actually is.  I’m not sure if I understand all of it but I do get some of the ideas.  I guess for me it’s using lots of new technology to communicate with people using different types of information: videos, pictures, blogs, tags, newspapers, written information. It’s hard to imagine all of the information available.

I have some qualms about the privacy of it all. It seems to me there needs to be some training especially for young people using of the technology out there.  Not just gathering information but putting personal information out there.  People need to know how to protect themselves and understand the dangers and be alert to what is out there.

It’s exciting the wealth of information that’s available.

Visiting Technorati

What a wealth of information!  It’s mind-boggling! I tried a little of many categories searching in each for tags, blogs, pictures etc.  While searching in Library 2.0 I came accross an article about a library festival in Camden, Maine, scene of my honeymoon 27 years ago.  It was called the “Sustainable Kitchen” with authors, conservationists, food critics all discussing the topic of food!  I then looked at some photos of Camden to reminisce and see the changes.  What fun!!!  I did have trouble signing onto the site and therefore did not “claim my blog.”

Delicious!!!!

Watched the 8 1/2 minute video.  Not sure how to put button on Menu Bar. I did search “23Things” and searched through the West Chester Public Library blog. This really shows how various parts of this new technology can be used.  It’s endless. I also clicked on the bookmark “CNN.com” which has been viewed by 21,000 people.  I could spend a lot of time browsing here. Again I need a “person” to help understand “how to do” some things.  I did create an account to go back to and search.

Making my own library catalog

I added books to “my library.”  Gate House, Chronicles of Narnia, Hour I First Believed, Mere Christianity, Careless in Red. These are old and new books that I have enjoyed.  I wrote a profile for one.

Searching for library related blogs and news feeds

Filed under: Uncategorized — momcass @ 8:17 pm

I added news feeds from Library Journal, NY Times book section, plus other library related subjects plus a sports feed from Philly.com and a celebrity and top news story feeds.  How does one have time to read all this?

Exploring RSS

This required a lot of reading.  I read the tutorial and took notes. Then I set up my “Bloglines account. After trial and error I subscribed to several news feeds.  ( I really didn’t have time to read any)
